Shi's "Twilight Realm" Gym
Team Size: 4
Before entering the gym, you'll encounter an elderly woman, and one of two things will happen; if it is nighttime, she will forbid you from entering, leading you to the Pokemon Center instead. If it is during the day, she'll give you a red scarf and implore you to wear it.
Upon first glance, the Twilight Realm gym looks fairly simple; you're presented with a wide room, at the end of which is the gym leader. The gym guide isn't very helpful in quelling the suspicion you feel... it looks too easy. He just waves you off with a quip about type match ups.
If you chose to wear the scarf before entering, a twisting path with lead you across the room to the gym leader, revealing mysterious panels next to it along the way. If you didn't wear the scarf, no path will appear, and you'll be forced to face the plethora of strange panels. Stepping on them can trigger status changes in your Pokemon, wild fairy-type encounters (wait...what?? Where did they come from?), whirlwinds blowing you back to the start, and teleportation to odd, plant-filled rooms where trainers wait to battle you. "The townspeople seem scared of this gym... they give it a wide berth." One said. "I'd avoidstepping in the mushrooms if I were you," Another warned. "Faeries are dangerous. You should learn that if you want to beat this gym." Why is everyone being so ominous?
Gym Battle Theme:
What you say before a battle: You didn't realize how big the gym was, and upon seeing the gym leader clearly for the first time, she (and the Slurpuff she's petting) don't seem all that scary. For that matter, you begin to wonder how any fairy types could be frightening, considering they're almost all pink. Those that old lady [and those trainers] must have just been trying to psyche you out. You approach her with this new resolve. This would be easy.
(With Scarf): She seems dazed, and doesn't respond until you speak to her yourself. "Ah - welcome. I see you've heeded the warnings given to you... You came to challenge me, yes? Let's not waste any time." (Without): She stares you down until you finally reach her. She seems mildly amused, but also... annoyed? "I see... let's get this over with, shall we? I'm sure you're tired from the antics my gym put you through."
When the opponent uses a super effective move on you:
"You might as well put salt in the wound while you're at it."
When you're down to your last Pokemon:
"This won't be as easy as you think."
When your last Pokemon is weak:
"..." *obvious discontent*
When you win:
"Fairy types are fairly unknown to the world. Gain some experience with them, and perhaps our next battle will end differently."
When you lose:
(With Scarf): "It looks like you understand the power these creatures truly have. I appreciate that, at least, although I'm not fond of losing. Here, take these." You receive the Twilight badge and a TM. "That move is Dazzling Gleam. It's fairly powerful, considering it's essentially Flash." She laughs. "If only it worked in the field." (Without): "...I try to keep in mind that I'm merely a stepping stone for your ambition." You receive the Twilight badge, and a pixie plate. "You have a long way to go, remember that."
Any rematch quotes:
(Having worn the scarf at her gym): "Long time no see." She smiles. "It looks like you've grown stronger since we last met. I'm glad - now I don't have to go easy on you." If you win, she'll give you a shell bell, or iron if you lost. (Having not worn the scarf at her gym): "I see your ambition has taken you far... I won't lose to it this time." Upon winning, she'll give you a white herb. She shrugs unapolagetically if you lose.
I'm vaguely disappointed that I couldn't get any fire types... but then I got a mega Gardevoir so that makes up for it a bit, haha. (Also mega Mawile on the rematch team?? )
I feel like I'd be really discontent (and mildly passive aggressive) as a gym leader...
